Astronomers have confirmed that ASASSN-24fw dimmed by an extraordinary 97% over a period of more than nine months, starting in late 2024 making it one of the longest and deepest stellar eclipses ever recorded. The star, located in the Monoceros constellation, was monitored through sky surveys that track brightness changes in stars over time. The data clearly shows a prolonged and structured drop in light, far beyond what a normal planet could cause. Scientists say the most likely explanation is a massive ringed object passing in front of the star either a brown dwarf or a super Jupiter–type planet. Unlike typical transits that last hours or days, this event stretched across months, pointing to something enormous in size. The ring system itself is estimated to span about 16 million miles (25 million km), making it one of the largest ever inferred. As different parts of the rings moved across the star, they created layered dimming patterns, which allowed astronomers to study the...
British authorities and intelligence services from several European countries have concluded that Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was poisoned with a rare and highly lethal toxin identified as epibatidine — a compound found in the skin of Ecuadorian poison dart frogs. They say the toxin was discovered in biological samples from Navalny’s body and is “highly likely” to have caused his death while he was imprisoned in Russia. The United Kingdom’s Foreign Office, speaking at the Munich Security Conference, stated that only the Russian state had the “means, motive and opportunity” to administer such a toxin to Navalny during his incarceration in a remote Siberian penal colony. The finding was backed by joint statements from Britain, France, Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands, which all confirmed the presence of epibatidine and are moving to report the matter to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Epibatidine is an extremely potent neurotoxin that occurs naturally in the skin of certain poison dart frogs native to parts of South America. It is not found naturally in Russia, and intelligence agencies say there is no innocent explanation for its presence in Navalny’s samples. The compound is many times more powerful than morphine and can cause severe neurological effects, including respiratory arrest and death.
Navalny, a long‑time critic of the Russian government and President Vladimir Putin, died in February 2024 while serving a prison sentence on charges his supporters say were politically motivated. At the time, Russian authorities claimed his death stemmed from natural causes, but the new analysis challenges that narrative.
Yulia Navalnaya, Navalny’s widow, welcomed the findings, saying that the results confirm her long‑held belief that her husband was murdered at the behest of the Kremlin. She described the evidence as “science‑proven” and reiterated that those responsible must be held accountable.
However, the Kremlin has strongly rejected the allegations, dismissing them as politically motivated “propaganda” and demanding that the European governments release detailed proof of their findings. A Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Moscow would respond further once evidence is published.
